6.7 million hybrids by 2028

Toyota plans to increase production of hybrid vehicles by more than 30% by 2028, bringing the number of units with this type of propulsion to 6.7 million, compared to the five million forecast for 2026.

Toyota intends to significantly expand its activity in the United States, an important market for the company, where incentives for electric cars have been reduced, driving demand for alternative engines.

In November, Toyota Motor North America, the Japanese brand’s subsidiary in the United States, announced plans to invest 912 million dollars (around 786.7 million euros) in five factories in the United States dedicated to the production of hybrid vehicles to “meet the growing demand for these vehicles in the country”.

In the United States alone, Toyota sold more than 2.51 million vehicles in 2025 through its division in the country, which represents an increase in delivery volume of 8% compared to 2024.

Around 47% of these sales corresponded to electric vehicles, which represents approximately 1.18 million units, 17.6% more than in the previous year.

Globally, of the 11.3 million vehicles that Toyota plans to manufacture in 2028, 60% will be hybrids.

The group was the world’s largest car manufacturer in 2025 for the sixth consecutive year.
