CGTP insists on withdrawing the labor package and criticizes the Government

The general secretary of the CGTP reiterated this Tuesday, March 3, that he will continue to demand the withdrawal of the draft reform of labor legislation from discussion and said that the Government “deals very badly with democracy”.

The CGTP “will continue to demand that the Government withdraw the labor package”, said the general secretary of this union, Tiago Oliveira, speaking to journalists at the entrance to the meeting of the Permanent Commission for Social Coordination, in Lisbon.

Tiago Oliveira also highlighted “the workers’ response to the general strike” on December 11, as well as the petition that was delivered to the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, and which had “190 thousand signatures rejecting” the government’s draft revision of labor legislation.

“CGTP only has one face” and, therefore, will “continue to give a voice to those who rejected this labor package from the beginning”, he insisted.

Asked about the fact that the CGTP was not invited by the executive to the bilateral and technical meetings that have been taking place regarding the changes in labor law, Tiago Oliveira said he did not accept that “the largest social organization in the country was placed on the sidelines of the meetings and that a soap opera was created”, trying to put into society the idea that “the CGTP refuses to discuss and negotiate”.

“This is all false,” added the CGTP general secretary, accusing the government of dealing “very poorly with democracy” and with “the workers’ statements” regarding the proposed changes.

For CGTP, the Government “has tried in every possible way to find subterfuges to move its agenda forward”.

The government and social partners meet in the afternoon in Social Concertation to discuss changes to labor law, at a time when both the minister and partners admit that they are “very far away” from a possible agreement.

The official agenda of the meeting indicates that the agenda includes the PTRR – Portugal Transformation, Recovery and Resilience, in addition to labor legislation, among other issues.

In addition to the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, Rosário Palma Ramalho, the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, and the Minister of Agriculture, José Manuel Fernandes, also participate in the meeting.
