18 Dogs Rescued During a Winter Storm in Missouri
In southeast Missouri, the nonprofit Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) rescued a pregnant dog and 17 other dogs suffering from the inclement snow and low temperatures that hit much of the United States.
Once safe and warm at the ARC rescue center located outside of Nashville, the staff helped the dog give birth to a litter of 9 adorable puppies.
According to ARC reports, after receiving a call in Doniphan, Missouri, their response team found several adult dogs chained up and multiple litters of puppies roaming freely on the property.
Tim Woodward, executive director of ARC and a finalist for CNN’s 2025 Hero of the Year award, explained that this is not a criminal case, as it was the property owners themselves who requested help in anticipation of the winter storm.
“The people living on the property recognized that the number of dogs had grown beyond what they could handle and that they could no longer adequately care for the animals,” Woodward said.
These people also agreed to have their personal dogs spayed or neutered immediately, at ARC’s expense.
ARC team members traveled to the area Thursday night, met with local rescuers Friday morning and transported seven adult dogs and 11 puppies to their rescue shelter near Nashville, Tennessee, that same day, KFVS 12 reported.
The situation was described as “uncontrolled breeding that got out of hand” after the owners of the property only took in the first dogs after offering to help a family member.

ARC does not specialize in adoptions, but rather large scale multi-animal rescues. Once animals are mentally and medically recovered from the conditions from which they were rescued, and legal custody has been secured, ARC works through its network of pre-approved 501(c)3 nonprofit shelters and rescues where these animals will continue their path to a loving home.
