Navy rescues 132 people isolated by floods in Portugal

The Navy makes it known that, If immediate support is needed for populations in riverside areas, it keeps 44 boats readyeight of which “to operate on the Vouga and Douro river, positioned in Ovar”, four “to operate on the Lis river, in Leiria, eight “to operate on the Mondego river, positioned in Montemor-o-Velho, Coimbra and Soure, eight “to operate on the Tagus river, positioned in Tancos, 10 “for the Sorraia river, positioned in Coruche and Benavente; two “to operate on the Sado river, in Alcácer do Sal and four boats to “operate on the Tagus river”.

“In addition, the National Maritime Authority, through the Maritime Department and the Regional Command of the Southern Maritime Police, maintains a reinforced presence of personnel and resources, with a total of three vessels on the banks of the Guadiana River, in Vila Real de Santo António, having supported 18 vessels to date”, he adds.

It is also mentioned that the The Navy and the AMN continue to increase, “gradually and in accordance with the assessment carried out with local authorities, the personnel and resources on site, with around 480 military personnel, militarized personnel and Maritime Police agents, 61 vehicles, 47 vessels, four generators and 17 drones so far engaged, plus a helicopter on standby”.
