Syracuse opens ACC play with the expected return of injured forward Donnie Freeman.

The sophomore missed the previous nine games over the past month with an undisclosed right lower leg injury.

Freeman’s return looms as the dominant storyline entering Wednesday’s game, which kicks off an 18-game conference slate with the kind of opportunity to shape an NCAA Tournament resume that the Orange must seize on its home court.

How Freeman performs after a long layoff could help decide. His potential role in getting rebounds and adding another capable free throw shooter could help offset some of the Orange’s biggest weaknesses.

Clemson, like Syracuse, lost most of its roster for 2024-25, but returns senior forward RJ Godfrey, a member of its 2024 Elite Eight team who spent last season at Georgia.

Dillon Hunter and Jestin Porter are a dangerous backcourt duo that can shoot. Hunter (45.5%) doesn’t take many 3s, but Porter (38.9%) does.
