Xi Jinping and Putin discuss China-Russia relations in video conference

Chinese President Xi Jinping held a videoconference conversation this Wednesday, February 4, with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, reported the official Chinese news agency Xinhua, without revealing, for now, the content of the meeting.

China and Russia maintain strong economic, diplomatic and military ties, which have intensified since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

On December 31, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin exchanged congratulatory messages on the occasion of the New Year.

The two leaders met at the beginning of September, in Beijing, on the sidelines of the military parade organized by China to mark 80 years since the victory over Japan in the Second World War.

This new conversation between Xi and Putin comes at a time when the United States claims to be close to reaching an agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine.

Russians and Ukrainians meet this Wednesday and Thursday for new rounds of negotiations in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.
