Parliament approved this Wednesday, March 4th, in particular, the proposal of the Left Bloc which provides for the 100% salary payment to workers who are covered by the permission to lay-off extraordinary, measure launched in the face of the impact of storm Kristin. The measure was approved with the unfavorable votes from the PSD and the Liberal Initiativeand with the favorable votes of the other parliamentary groups.
The votes on the specialty took place this morning in the Labor, Social Security and Inclusion Committee, and the deputies approved the proposal from the Left Bloc which provides that the remuneration compensation to which the work is entitled corresponds to 100% of the normal net remunerationup to 2,760 euros. In other words, Parliament, through a negative coalition, forces the Government to fulfill the promise made at the beginning of February. After CDS-PP warned of dangers of unconstitutionality and the Government pointed out that the brake rule to prevent further spending could be activated, the struggle between the AD and opposition parties had a new battle, but with an advantage for the opposition.
Still, committed to achieving approval, BE added two new articles that provide for full remuneration in lay-off with compensation from next year’s State Budget. Thus, the accommodation of the measures would be transposed to the 2027 OE, so that the brake rule would not be called into question, even if the party considers that the increase in expenditure in this year’s budget would not be enough to prevent approval.
The articles in question that BE presents want to see reflected in the decree-law the right to 100% of the salary for those affected by bad weather, which, during the first 60 days, is paid 80% of its amount by the competent public service in the area of social security and 20% by the employer, subsequently being paid 70% by the public service and 30% by the employer.
In committee, from what was possible to know, the PSD claimed that with the introduction of the standard there could be a gap in support and that workers would only be helped from 2027 onwards. Both the PS and the Bloc demonstrated a different interpretation and highlighted how crucial it is that support reaches the populations affected by the bad weather.
