Sporting beats FC Porto in the first battle for access to the Portuguese Cup final (see the goal)

A goal from Colombian top scorer Luis Suárez from a penalty gave Sporting a 1-0 victory, in Alvalade, against FC Porto, in the first leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals.

The Porto players now have to turn this tie around to reach the Jamor final. In April the lions will enter the Estádio do Dragão with the need to draw.

The game was full of intensity and emotion, with both teams looking for the opponent’s goal, even though the first half consisted only of long shots from William Gomes and Fresneda, which were not taken.

The second half started with the same rhythm and with Porto player Alan Varela hitting the post with another shot from outside the area.

And in the 58th minute came the best opportunity for Sporting with Fresneda deflecting towards the post and, subsequently, Pepê brought down Hjulmand with referee Cláudio Pereira having no doubts and awarding a penalty. Colombian Luis Suárez took advantage to beat Diogo Costa and open the scoring in Alvalade.
