The Government reached an understanding with five of the seven unions that represent professionals at the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN). After the meeting this Monday, March 2, the Ministry of Justice announced that “a decisive step has been taken in reviewing and enhancing these careers”.
A review of the salary tables was agreed, with retroactive effect to the month of July 2025. “The agreement signed today responds to the main requests of the Record Keepers and Registration Officers workers and mitigates situations of salary asymmetries created in the 2019 review. This review includes relevant salary increases for workers and takes effect from July 1, 2025″, he explains.
However, the value of this increase was not disclosed, classified as “relevant”. According to the Ministry of Justice, there was “a long, highly participated negotiation process, with contributions from all unions, which took place based on principles of good faith, commitment and responsibility”.
Rita Júdice, quoted in a statement, highlighted the value of her career. “This agreement represents an unequivocal political choice: to value workers and recognize the role of Registrars and Registrars in the functioning of the State and in the confidence of the Portuguese in Justice. The Government will continue to invest in Justice professionals to modernize the system, increase efficiency and place the citizen at the center of public policies”.
Marisa Garrido, Secretary of State for Public Administration, highlighted that the initiative is part of the employee development plan. “This agreement is another commitment reached within the scope of the Government Program and the Multi-Year Agreement for the Valorization of Public Servants 2026–2029, reinforcing measures to value people in the Public Administration, in this case, in the governmental area of Justice”detailed Garrido, also mentioned in a statement.
According to the Government, “These measures reinforce the attractiveness of careers, promote talent retention and bring the public service closer to the real needs of the population, contributing to faster, more accessible and reliable justice”.
