Air Canada suspends flights to Puerto Vallarta due to security crisis

The airline Air Canada announced the indefinite suspension of its operations to Puerto Vallarta after the day of violence unleashed by the federal operation in which Nemesio Oseguera “El Mencho”, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was killed.

The airline reported that the situation directly affects the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, which forced it to suspend flights while it evaluates conditions in real time.

In a statement, the company explained that it maintains communication with local authorities to restore operation as soon as there are minimum security guarantees. The decision coincides with the special alert from the United States Mission in Mexico, which asked its citizens to shelter in place in several states, including Jalisco, due to blockades, vehicle fires and the presence of armed groups after the military operation.

The air interruption immediately impacts one of the most visited destinations by travelers from the United States and Canada, markets that represent the majority of international arrivals to Vallarta during winter and spring. The port is considered a strategic corridor for North American tourism due to its connectivity, hotel infrastructure and cultural offer, factors that tend to make it especially sensitive to any episode of regional violence.
