Several explosions heard in Kiev after ballistic missile warning

An explosion was heard when a patrol arrived at the scene, followed by another when a second team arrived, according to the same source, who also confirmed the death of a 23-year-old police officer. “This is clearly a terrorist act,” Mayor Andriy Sadovy said in a video posted on social media.

“Fifteen people are receiving medical care, some in very serious condition. A police officer died”, he lamented. Authorities released images of the facade of a building with destroyed storefronts on a street where the sidewalks are covered in snow.

Russia, which occupies almost 20% of Ukrainian territory, bombs civilian areas and infrastructure daily, having recently triggered the country’s worst energy crisis since the beginning of the invasion. “We cannot say that we are losing the war, honestly, we certainly are not. The question is whether we will win,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told the France-Presse news agency on Friday.

Solidarity marches for Ukrainian children take place today in several Portuguese cities, including Porto, Coimbra and Lisbon, two days before the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, on February 24, 2022. Organized by the Ukrainian community in Portugal, the marches aim to mark four years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and draw attention to the impact of the war on Ukrainian children, one of the most vulnerable groups in the conflict.

According to UNICEF, as we enter the fifth year of war, a third of Ukraine’s children remain displaced, almost 2.6 million. Around 1.8 million of these children live as refugees outside the country and more than 791,000 are displaced within Ukraine. At least 3,200 children died or were injured during the four years of war.
