Passos Coelho discusses ‘Reform to Grow’ at the Mais Liberdade Institute Conference

Former Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho will be the main speaker at the +Ideias ’26 Conference, which marks the fifth anniversary of Instituto Mais Liberdade. At the event, which takes place on the afternoon of February 28th, at the Museu do Oriente, in Lisbon, the social democrat will give the lecture “Reform to Grow”, in which he will talk about the political and economic conditions necessary for a sustainable cycle of growth and modernization in Portugal.

This intervention follows the presentation of the book “Intermediate Leadership in the Transformation of Public Services”by Damasceno Dias, when Passos Coelho made a very critical diagnosis of the functioning of Public Administration and the structural difficulties in reforming the State in Portugal. .

The conference that marks the fifth anniversary of the Mais Liberdade Institute, founded by Carlos Guimarães Pinto in 2021, has the motto “Unlocking Portugal’s Potential”, and will have interventions from other current and former governments.

After the opening session, at 2:30 pm, led by the executive director of Instituto Mais Liberdade, André Pinção Lucas, follows the panel “Accelerating the Transition: Energy as Portugal’s Competitive Advantage”, which brings together the president of the Portuguese Energy Association and CEO of EDP Inovação, António Coutinho, and the former Secretary of State for Energy and former Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba.

The current Secretary of State for Higher Education, Cláudia Sarrico, will debate “Kodak Universities or Netflix? Reinventing Higher Education”, with the professor at Nova SBE, Pedro Santa Clarawhile the former Secretary of State for Tourism, Adolfo Mesquita Nunes, author of the book “Algorithmocracia”, will speak about “AI, Trust and Competitiveness: The New Tripod of the Global Economy” with the professor at Instituto Superior Técnico and president of INESC, Arlindo Oliveira.
