Army reinforces geospatial monitoring to respond to floods

The Army Geospatial Information Center has activated a response cell to support the planning and coordination of flood response operations, it said in a statement released this Monday, February 16.

Initially, products developed by the Geospatial Support Unit were used, focusing on the Tagus and Vouga river basins. Due to weather forecasts and the increasing risk in the north, the effort was expanded to cover priority river basins across the country, including Guadiana, Mondego, Sado, Douro and Minho.

This expansion makes it possible to create scenarios that simulate rising waters, facilitating effective planning and the appropriate positioning of resources.
