The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, denounced on Monday a possible bombing by Ecuador on the Colombian side of the border, where drug trafficking groups operate, and warned that he is waiting for the results of an investigation to avoid “going to war.”
Petro accuses his neighbor of bombings
The leftist president, who is in a trade dispute with his Ecuadorian counterpart Daniel Noboa, assured that his government has evidence of an attack with a “bomb” dropped from a plane near the border line.

“They are bombing us from Ecuador and they are not illegal armed groups,” he said during a televised meeting with his ministers.

Petro added that he asked the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to “act” in the face of this alleged bombing.
“I asked him to call the president of Ecuador because we don’t want to go to war,” he added, without specifying the date on which he made the request.
The Colombian president did not specify when the alleged attack would have occurred, which is being investigated to “make decisions.”
Colombia and Ecuador have been in a trade war since February, when Noboa imposed tariffs on its neighbor by complaining to Petro for allegedly not making enough efforts to combat drug trafficking on the border.
Petro responded with the same measure and, despite different diplomatic efforts, the crisis continues.
Ecuadorian forces began a two-week anti-drug offensive with support from the United States on Sunday.
Noboa is very close to Washington and his country is part of the so-called “Shield of the Americas”, an alliance of 17 countries on the continent recently created to confront security threats.
Colombia is not part of that agreement announced by Trump, who went from being an enemy of Petro to approaching him after a meeting at the White House on February 3.
