“It’s not everything we would have wanted”

The president of MexicoClaudia Sheinbaum, has recognized the “gesture of rapprochement” that King Felipe VI made when acknowledging that there was “a lot of abuse” during the Conquest of America by the Spanish but has admitted that it was not everything she would have liked to hear.

“It is an approach of the King that we recognize”Sheinbaum said during her daily press conference when asked about the monarch’s statements during an exhibition dedicated to the role of indigenous women.

“It wasn’t everything we would have wanted. but the truth is that it is a gesture of rapprochement” in the sense of what the previous president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, had been demanding, of “recognition of excesses, exterminations that occurred during the arrival of the Spanish.”

“So I think we have to recognize it and continue advancing the dialogue“he declared.
