We are determinedly committed to moving the municipality of Coimbra forward, placing people at the center of political action. We govern with proximity, transparency and active listening, working in partnership with parishes, institutions and all agents in the territory. We want Coimbra to be recognized as a reference municipality in quality of life, where it is easier to reconcile professional, family and personal life. We want Coimbra to recover its economic dynamism, rejuvenate itself and assert itself as an attractive territory for the thousands of young people who graduate here, ensuring the appreciation of its history and making culture a factor of generational cohesion.
In the coming years, we will strengthen social and territorial cohesion, supporting parishes and ensuring quality public services throughout the county. We will invest in Education starting from daycare, in affordable housing for young people and in creating conditions that allow talent and opportunities to be retained in Coimbra. At the same time, we will promote active aging and reinforce social responses aimed at the elderly population, ensuring an inclusive council where everyone feels integrated.
We assume as a strategic priority the recovery and valorization of Mondego and its banks, transforming them into a true space for meetings, leisure and nature. If this was already an important objective, the recent floods reinforced the urgency of harmonious coexistence between the city and the river. We want a municipality that is resilient to climate change, both in its ability to manage floods and fires, and in the construction of a territory richer in biodiversity, with green corridors that protect us from heat waves. The traffic challenge will be faced with more and better public transport, sustainable mobility and urban spaces designed for people.
On an economic level, and by leveraging our research centers of excellence, Coimbra has all the conditions to assert itself as a hub for innovation, knowledge and investment. We will focus on attracting companies, supporting entrepreneurship and valuing the talent generated by our educational institutions. To this end, we are at an advanced stage in the creation of the GoCoimbra agency and in the implementation of an ambitious Innovation District, which will connect Alta Universitária to Baixa and the riverfront, bringing knowledge and companies closer to the city.
This is our commitment: to make Coimbra a more dynamic, fair and future-prepared municipality – a territory of opportunities, created by everyone and for everyone.
In close coordination with the municipalities of the Coimbra Region, we will work in an integrated manner to leverage resources, capture financing and defend structuring investments. We defend and will work towards a strong, competitive Metropolitan Region of Coimbra capable of creating opportunities for everyone.
