At least 200 dead and 400 injured in a Pakistani attack on a Kabul hospital, according to the Taliban government

“In the attack by the Pakistani military regime against the thousand-bed drug rehabilitation hospital, more than 200 addicts who were receiving treatment in one of the wards died,” detailed the spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health of the Afghan Government, Dr. Sharafat Zaman Amar.

In addition, “about 200 injured people have also been transferred to hospitals,” according to the spokesperson, who warned that “the number of victims could increase even more.”

These statements coincide with the estimates of an Afghan Government source, who has also assured EFE a provisional balance of up to 400 injured, noting that medical facilities “have been completely destroyed by the bombing“.

“Many patients are still buried under the rubble, so these numbers may increase,” government sources warn.

“There were very strong and continuous explosionsand the sound of fighter jets was also heard. When we looked, we saw flames. When I left, the Omid Treatment Center had been bombed,” he told EFE Yousuf Khan Hotak, a witness who lives near the medical center in District 9 of the Afghan capital.

“All the victims here its civilians and patients who had been brought to receive treatment,” adds the witness, while ambulances continued operating in the area.

The Pakistani government has categorically denied having attacked a civilian medical center and has assured that its operations were “highly precise and focused” against material warehouses of the insurgent group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

According to a statement from the Pakistani Ministry of Information, the claim about the hospital is a “distortion of facts” by the Taliban regime to cover up its support for cross-border terrorism.

To support its version, Islamabad argues that the secondary and continuous detonations recorded after the impact of its artillery confirm that the building housed heavy weapons and explosives, and not patients.

Omid Hospital was one of the largest rehabilitation facilities in Afghanistan, dedicated to treating drug addicts from the 34 provinces of the Asian country.
