Two women, aged 51 and around 75, died this Sunday in the crash of a car that occurred on IC1, next to Aldeia de Palheiros, in the municipality of Ourique, district of Beja, firefighters and Civil Protection said.
The source from the Baixo Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command told the Lusa agency that the accident, for which the alert was given at 12:13, occurred at kilometer 676.200 of Complementary Itinerary (IC) 1.
Contacted by Lusa, the commander of the Ourique Fire Department, Mário Batista, highlighted that, Following the crash, the car fell from a cliff approximately 15 meters high.
The corporation commander highlighted that the two women were the only occupants of the vehicle.
According to the Civil Protection source, the deaths were declared at the scene of the accident by the doctor from the emergency and resuscitation medical vehicle (VMER) in Albufeira.
The relief operations mobilized the Ourique Fire Department, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) and the GNR, with a total of 21 operational personnel, supported by nine vehicles, including the VMER from Albufeira and the Immediate Life Support (SIV) ambulances from Castro Verde and Odemira.
The INEM helicopter from Évora arrived at the location, but ended up demobilized after confirming the deaths.
