Taiwan on alert after detecting 26 Chinese warplanes threatening its airspace

Taiwan has detected 26 Chinese military aircraft operating in the surroundings of the island throughout this weekend, according to the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense.

The main threat has been that 16 of them have crossed the median line of the Taiwan Straitand have penetrated aerial areas close to the north, center and southwest of the territory.

16 ships in the Strait

One of the things that worries most Taiwan is that 16 of the aircraft They have crossed the middle line of the Strait.

This was an unofficial border that for decades has functioned as a tacit line of separation between both sides.

Thus, these aircraft have penetrated areas of the north, center and southwest of the zone of Air Defense Identification (ADIZ) of Taiwan.

This is the highest number of Chinese aircraft that Taiwan has detected since February 25. At that time the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense reported the presence of 30 ships.

For Beijing this was at the time a “joint combat readiness patrol.”

Although it is true that, between the end of February and the beginning of March, Taiwan recorded much less Chinese air activity than usual, with several days without incursions.

military pressure

The key behind the incursions that are taking place by China in Taiwan is the historical right that they consider they have over the island whose sovereignty has not been recognized.

However, the Taiwanese government maintains that the island is an autonomous territory with its own political and military system.

Thus, in recent years it has been seen as Beijing has been increasing military pressure by sending aircraft repeatedly.

But not only that, they have been sending warships to the vicinity of the island.

A strategy that Taipei complaint as part of a campaign of intimidation aimed at wearing down its armed forces and reinforcing its territorial claims.
