According to polls, the Popular Party won the autonomous elections in Castilla y León, but fell short of a majority and is dependent on Vox, which once again emerges from the polls in Spain strengthened. The socialists suffered a new setback, but not as strong as in the last elections.
According to Sigma Dos poll for the The Worldthe PP of the current president of the Junta of Castilla and León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, will have 33.7% and between 30 and 32 seats (it now has 31). Far from the absolute majority of 42.
The PSOE, with the candidacy of Carlos Martínez, would have 29.8% of the votes and between 25 and 27 seats – a drop from the current 28, but not as strong as in other autonomous elections that took place in recent months.
Carlos Pollán’s Voz would get 21.1% and will have between 17 and 19 representatives in the Cortes (the regional parliament), up from the 13 it had now.
The Leonés People’s Union (UPL) would have between three and four (it has three), the Soria Ya party, which also had three, is expected to fall to two. For Ávila he would maintain the only representative and this poll leaves open the possibility of Esquerda Unida and Sumar also electing a representative.
At stake is the election of 82 prosecutors (the names given to regional deputies) of the Cortes of Castile and León, the regional parliament.
Another survey, from NC Report for the newspaper The reasonthe PP also won with 32.9% of the votes (between 31 and 32 attorneys). The PSOE would have 29.2%, losing one or two representatives, to 26 or 27.
Vox would have 20.1%, gaining four or five more attorneys, leaving 17 or 18. UPL would keep the three, Soria Ya! would lose one, Por Ávila would keep what he has and Sumar would gain one.
After the 2022 elections, PP and Vox had reached a government agreement, but the alliance broke up in 2024 due to differences at national level regarding the reception of migrant minors.
At 6pm local time (5pm in Lisbon) participation was higher than four years ago: 53.19%, 1.57 points more than in 2022.
The elections in Castilla y León are the third autonomous elections in Spain in less than three months – Extremadura was the first to vote, on December 21st, followed by Aragon on February 8th.
In these elections, the PP won without an absolute majority, becoming more dependent on the extreme right of Vox (although there are still no agreements to govern). The PSOE suffered a defeat in both ballots.
