Jefferson Rib exhibition in Porto celebrates Rio carnival

Based in Portugal, Brazilian visual artist Jefferson Rib opens this Saturday (14), in Porto, the exhibition “Bum Bum Paticumbum Prugurundum”, dedicated to the universe of samba schools in Rio de Janeiro. The exhibition opens at 5pm in the Allmo space and presents works that dialogue with recurring themes of carnival parades, exploring the artistic, cultural and historical dimension of these associations that emerged in the first decades of the 20th century.

The title of the exhibition refers to the characteristic sound of the Rio carnival. The works gathered in the exhibition evoke plots presented in old and recent carnivals, in a visual approach that highlights the aesthetics of the parades, marked by the combination of narrative, music and visual elements. The proposal also draws attention to the role of samba schools as spaces for cultural production and transmission of knowledge.
