On Friday night, police and firefighters were called to a Jewish school in the south of Amsterdam, where an explosion, followed by fire, caused minor damage to the building’s facade.
According to authorities, security cameras recorded an individual placing and detonating the explosive device on the school’s exterior wall. This attack comes shortly after an explosion in front of a synagogue in Rotterdam last Thursday.
For Israel, the Netherlands is experiencing “an epidemic of anti-Semitism” after these recent incidents, which take place in the middle of the war that Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is waging against Iran and Lebanon, while the blockade of the Gaza Strip continues.
“In the Netherlands, an epidemic of anti-Semitism is wreaking havoc. We witness its reach [numa agenda] against Israelis in Amsterdam in November 2024 and in the attack on the Rotterdam synagogue two days ago,” the statement said.
In November 2024, clashes broke out between anti-war protesters in Gaza and a group of fans of the Israeli football club Maccabi Tel Aviv, who had come to the Dutch capital to watch a game against Ajax.
In turn, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten called the attack on the Jewish school “terrible” and said he would start talks with the Jewish community. “They should always feel safe in our country”, he emphasized.
