Miguel Prata Roque, one of the main faces of internal criticism in the PS, was defeated in the election of delegates that began today, Friday, March 13, DN learned.
The former Secretary of State, running in Loures, was one of those who faced an opposition ticket and ended up losing the election in the Lisbon Urban Area Federation to join the group of delegates. In this case, Henrique Sá Melo, on list A for Lumiar-Santa Clara, was the winner. Sá Melo was a deputy in the Lisbon Municipal Assembly.
This result is still notable, since Prata Roque is a television commentator and has at various times called for rejuvenation in the party, criticizing José Luís Carneiro’s moderation, despite DN highlighting the “sensible leadership” that the secretary-general has had.
In 2025, Prata Roque had lost the election for the Lisbon Federation of the PS, with socialist MEP Carla Tavares winning with 71%, despite Prata Roque triumphing in three municipalities.
Now 627 delegates will be elected and those that will have no representation have increased from 108 sections to 173, that is, remaining inactive, unable to elect a delegate as they do not have 100 members to vote. There are 65 more sections than in the XXIV Congress, leaving a percentage of 27.6% of sections without representation.
José Luís Carneiro is unopposed and will be reappointed as secretary general. From what DN was able to learn, in Lisbon the votes already indicated significant votes of support for the current secretary general. More results will be made official in the coming hours.
