There are eleven blue ships that transport goods around the world. They are identified as Tailwind Shipping Linesbut they are, in fact, linked to a well-known Portuguese brand: o Lidl.
Em 2022the Schwarz Group, which is based in Germany and owns Lidl, created a global transport network. Today, operates 11 ships and five more are on the waywhose construction should begin in 2026 and will have a cost totaling 500 million dollars.
In an economic and geopolitical context marked by uncertainty, those responsible do not want to remain dependent on distribution chains that they do not control. The objective is to transport cargo from the Asian market to Europewhere Lidl has established stores in most countries.
With this in mind, the Schwarz Group came forward with a bold bet, the first by a retail giant in this regard.
To refer that the majority (nine) of vessels in circulation does not belong to Tailwind Shipping Lines itself. Only the rest (two) are its assets.
In total, there are around 12,600 stores spread across 31 countries from three continents (Europe, North America and Asia). In Portugal, it has more than 280 stores and 8 thousand workers.
