Lisbon hosts special session dedicated to Kleber Mendonça Filho

Already cheering for the Oscars, a special session of shorts by Kleber Mendonça Filho takes place this week in Lisbon. Casa da América Latina hosts the event on Thursday, March 12, at 7pm.

Two works by Pernambuco will be presented, set in Recife: the drama Home Appliance (Brazil, 2005, 22′) and the documentary World Cup in Recife (Brazil, 2014, 15′). In Home Appliance“the film captures the tension and rhythm of urban life, revealing the small crises and desires of everyday life in Recife“. The work features the participation of Magdale Alves, Gabriela Souza and Pedro Bandeira.

Already in World Cup in RecifeKleber Mendonça Filho “records the city with four camera teams, creating a time capsule that shows a vibrant Recife and, at the same time, foreshadows social and political changes“. The short has already been shown in Portugal.

After the session, there will be a conversation with actress and director Joana de Verona and artist and poet Diego Garcez. Entry is free, but subject to space capacity. The promotion is by Casa da América Latina, in partnership with the Brazilian Embassy in Lisbon and Nitrato Filmes.

The event is a “warm-up” for the Oscars, in which the film The Secret Agent is competing. The ceremony is scheduled for 3pm (Los Angeles time) on Sunday, March 15th.
