Ambassador of Israel in Lisbon. “There is a great threat, that’s why we waged this war” in Iran, he says

Oren Rozenblat, Israel’s ambassador in Lisbon, defended the attack on Iran as he considered the country a “great threat”, adding that this motivated the war, led by the United States. In an interview with CNN Portugal this evening, the Israeli highlighted that “the Iranians immediately initiated” nuclear weapons projects after the 12-day war.

According to the ambassador, faced with this threat, there was no alternative. “We and the Americans had no choice, we need to act now”he stated. Faced with statements from the Israeli Prime Minister, who said he had annihilated this threat, Oren Rozenblat responded that this was information “from the time of war” of the 12 days.

“We know that, after the war, immediately, they tried to produce more and more, for example, ballistic missiles, these missiles that hit Israel and also other neighboring countries, as well as the European Union, like Cyprus. They tried to produce more and more ballistic missiles and, therefore, we need to act”he detailed.

At the same time, he stressed that both Israel and the United States want to help Iran.”We, the Americans, want to create the conditions so that the people can choose their government. We stand with the Iranian people in the fight for freedom”he declared.

The ambassador recalled that “what happened in recent months on the streets of Tehran is horrible” and that Israel’s desire is that, in the future, there will be a Government “who wants to live in peace with Israel and neighboring countries and who cares about the well-being of its citizens.” He also recalled that, “until the extremist Islamic revolution in 1979”, the relationship between the two nations was “excellent”.

Regarding a possible civil war in Iran, dismissed this hypothesis, stating that “the Iranian people do not have weapons”. He also highlighted that the targets hit were “military”.

Regarding the Government of Portugal, Oren Rozenblat did not want to answer whether the country should support Israel directly. “This is a matter that we discussed with the Portuguese Government (…) and that we did not discuss in the media in Portugal.” Even so, he said he expected Portugal’s “support”, but assured that he had not asked the country for “weapons or money”.
