Brazil’s new honorary consulate in Belmonte strengthens ties with Portugal

The Brazilian government established yet another honorary consulate in Portugal. It is in Belmonte, the city where Pedro Alvares Cabral was born. The honorary consul is António Dias, former mayor of the city who maintains a very close relationship with Brazil.

“It’s an honor,” he says to DN Brazil. The honorary consulate does not have the authority to carry out formal procedures with the Brazilian government, such as issuing documents, but it can guide, inform and promote relations between the two countries.

The post in Belmonte will respond to the consulate general of Lisbon, serving residents of the Castelo Branco and Portalegre districts, and is still in the implementation phase. According to the honorary consul, a physical service space should be installed in the City Hall building.
