Portugal faces Chile in preparation for the 2026 football World Cup

The World Cup starts on June 11th, but the ‘quinas’ team, part of group K, will only make its debut on June 17th, in Mexico City, against the winner of the first path of the intercontinental play-off, played in March by Jamaica, New Caledonia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In the second round, on June 23, in Houston, Portugal will face Uzbekistan and, in the third, on June 27, in Miami, the Colombian team.

In addition to the friendly against Chile, which did not qualify for the World Cup, Portugal has preparatory matches against Mexico, on March 29th (28th in Mexico), at the Azteca Stadium, and with the United States, on April 1st (March 31st, in the United States), in Atlanta.

On Tuesday, the FPF said it was monitoring the situation of violence in Mexico, almost a month before the visit to the Mexicans at the Azteca Stadium, and that “any decision will be taken as a result of permanent monitoring, in close coordination with the Government and in line with the Mexican Football Federation”.

The leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) cartel, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as ‘El Mencho’, died on Sunday, after a military operation in Tapalpa, in the state of Jalisco, leading to clashes in Mexico.
