A perforation allegedly caused by the impact of a bullet was discovered in the fuselage of an American Airlines plane that flew between Medellín, Colombia, and Miami, United States.
According to North American media in Miami, the North American state of Florida, the airline indicated this Wednesday, February 25, that technical teams detected a perforation on the exterior of the aircraft during a routine inspection after returning to Miami.
The aircraft was immediately taken out of service for additional inspections and repairs with an ongoing investigation, American Airlines told ABC News.
According to the company, North American police authorities will collaborate in the investigation.
The perforation was found in the right wing of the plane and there were no injuries or technical disturbances during the flight.
According to data from the specialized portal Flightradar24, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 made the trip from Miami to Medellín on Sunday and then from Medellín to Miami on Monday morning.
On Monday night, the aircraft left without passengers for Dallas, Texas, where American Airlines is headquartered, for complete repairs.
In November 2024, the United States banned all civilian flights to Haiti for a month after three aircraft were hit by gunfire.
