Operation Marquis. Sócrates’ lawyer requests resignation with immediate effect

José Sócrates, the main accused in Operation Marquês, is again without a lawyer. Sara Leitão Moreira asked this Tuesday, February 24th, to resign with immediate effect as she considered that she was not given enough time to prepare the former prime minister’s defense.

The lawyer asked for five months to find out about the process, but the court granted ten days to do so, which Sara Leitão Moreira considers to be insufficient. “I’m not a supporting character,” he told reporters at the Justice Campus.

“A lawyer, to do his job, must have the necessary means and time to do so. If not, the only possible way is not to condone the denial of justice”, he argued. “Right now, we are facing a situation of denial of justice”, added Sara Leião Moreira.
