Activity Rafael Estevez and Valeriano Pañosawarded the Premio Nacional de Danza in 2019, it is unstoppable and multiplies with exercises, journeys, projects, exercises, preparation of montages, in a dynamic rhythm and with a burst of creative capacity. Always with his own, sophisticated style, high artistic quality and seeking perfection through a personality that makes him distinctive and perfectly identifiable, both in the field of choreography, stage and purely dance.

Passengers from Istanbul went through the Nimes Festival in France and will attend the Jerez Festival on Tuesday 24th before returning to downtown New York on 27th February. Doncellas (Permanent Juerga)a title that can lead to misunderstandings because you only have men in the script, new dancers.

“Las ‘doncellas’, par Federico García Lorcaare the heart of the guitar: ‘In the redonda/ encrucijada/ six doncellas/ bailan./ Three of meat/ a three of plata./ Los sueños de ayer las can,/ pero las tener abrazadas/ un Polifemo de oro./ ¡La guitarra!’. This is the poem ‘Adivinanza de la guitarra’ from the book Cante jondo poem. On the other hand, the music of Ramón Montoya (1879-1949), the father of flamenco guitar and especially of flamenco guitar concertism, is the sound basis that we want to implement in this new project,” says Rafael Estévez.

Really, Ramón Montoya is the founder of today’s flamenco guitara pioneer as a soloist in Spain who offered concerts in France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, the United Kingdom or Argentina. In 1936, he recorded six recordings in Paris, which from that moment formed the canon for all subsequent generations. The two performances announced in the Chopin Hall of the French capital are famous because it was necessary to open the large Pleyel Hall, reserved only for extraordinary performances, before the rush of the public.

Lorca, Montoya and Chacón

If the name “Doncellas” is foreign to Lorca’s poem, the subtitle “Eternal Life” presents two basic references: first, These are the moments when Montoya and Antonio Chacón gather in private spaces to sing and touchtrafficked by money lovers. “That’s why I added Montoya to the flamenco guitar everywhere in the game, to those reserved for music, and served him in the laboratory or study to create new musical forms that were always sought.”

The second link that discusses this subtitle has its origin in it literature as foodin the voraciousness of reading, in investigation, in research and in surprise with unforgettable findings in places where, after the process of decanting, the keys or the impulse to develop the piece appear.

In this sense, they are visionaries, and who owe it to a text that may seem anodyne at first glance, they have the ability to discover the universe that inspires them with keen perception. “For much abstraction that may appear, for much avant-garde, rare or foreign, We don’t plan to make a show unless we have an investigation and thorough prior study”.

¿Y en Juerga perennial Is there another explanation, the same as those nights of Montoya and Chacón with the grieving seniors? “Looking at the newspaper books, we see that not all players are amused and some end in tragedy Lights of Bohemiafrom Valle-Inclán, came across a phrase that charmed me, ‘These men must play permanently’, which refers to bohemians who are in decadence. In the case of flamenco, we can think of professionals of happiness who, however, are sad inside. This led us to think about different types of players, and now we encounter the word together with Montoya’s music to find it all. A number of stimuli led us to create a program with this title and subtitle”.

In all forms, the vision of these dancers and choreographers brought to life Montoya’s music, “which was very modern and revolutionary in its time and is a classic today.”

The team consists of Rafael Estévez and Valeriano Pañosawarded the Revelation Award at the Jerez Festival and the Giraldillo for Best Choreography at the Bienal de SevillaThey have signed, directed, choreographed and acted in shows held in the most prestigious theaters in our country and abroad, such as Aquel Silverio, Flamencocolorquiano, Tiempo, A piano, Sonata, Preflamenco, Romance, Consagración, Bailables, El sombrero, Danza para guitarra y Confluencebetween 2016 and 2018 he also directed works for Rocío Molina, Marco Flores, Manuel Liñán, Olga Pericet, The American Flamenco Repertory Company, Carlos Saura or for the Flamenco Ballet of Andalucía.

And now from the outside Doncellas (Permanent Juerga)it it goes from historical reconstruction to choreographic fantasy,,that in this show there is also a song of diversity, from classic to contemporary, using our language, always with rigor, from the most absolute respect to the music as it is, imprinting the character of each piece and an asymism that tries to create different types of ‘juerga’, each with its own choreographic structure, with these catorce or quince pieces that come from the performance of Ramvelón and Monty from the performance of Ramvelón in Monty. guitarist Alejandro Hurtado”.
