The PSP detained a foreign citizen coming from São Paulo, Brazil, at Lisbon Airport, with 1,175 grams of cocaine inside his body, it was announced this Monday, February 23, by that police.
According to a statement released this Monday, the 39-year-old man was detained on Sunday by members of the Airport Security and Border Control Division at Humberto Delgado Airport, after having displayed suspicious behavior upon being intercepted upon arrival in Lisbon.
According to the PSP, following border control, and after presenting inconsistent statements regarding the reasons for the trip, the suspect ended up admitting to having ingested capsules containing cocaine.
For reasons of safeguarding his physical integrity, the man was immediately transported to a hospital in Lisbon, where he remained hospitalized under police surveillance until the transported product was completely expelled from the body.
After the entire substance was expelled, cocaine with a total gross weight of 1,174.9 grams was seized, according to tests carried out as part of the ongoing criminal case.
The prisoner was indicted and will be heard later in the first judicial interrogation to apply precautionary measures.
