Brazilian seeks reports of AIMA delays in filing a case with the European Court of Human Rights

A complaint against Portugal will be filed with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) due to delays by the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA). Brazilian Amanda Abreu is looking for reports to support the action.

In an interview with Lusa, the immigrant highlighted that reports of obstruction of justice and “huge reports of xenophobia” have already been collected. The Brazilian’s request to the court is one: that the law’s deadlines be met.

“For us, these delays mean that we do not have documents and that means there is noeven having a formal contract, not having a doctor, school registration or driver’s license”, explained Amanda, who has lived in Portugal for nine years.

The immigrant highlights that the problem also affects the Portuguese, in other public administration bodies. “What happens to us, immigrants, is just a mirror of what also affects the Portuguese: a State that ignores, does not respond. And what we are asking is that the Portuguese State comply with its own internal law”he stated.

According to the immigrant, the objective of the process is not “to punish Portugal, but rather to force the State to comply with the laws that exist in the constitution and its legal system”. Reports can be sent to peticao.tribunal.internacional@hotmail.com
