PJ arrests suspect of being part of an international trafficking network at Lisbon airport

The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested at Lisbon airport, a 40-year-old man, suspected of belonging to an international drug trafficking network which should operate, mainly, in the port of Leixões, was announced this Saturday, February 21st.

The arrest was made on Friday by inspectors from the Northern Directorate at General Humberto Delgado airport, in Lisbon, with the collaboration of Lisbon units and other entities based at that airport, according to a PJ publication on the official website.

“This police action follows the arrest of four alleged drug traffickers, which took place last week, in the Greater Porto area, as part of an operation aimed at two drug trafficking networks, which used the seaport of Leixões as a gateway to Europe for large quantities of cocaine”, described the PJ.

At issue are two investigations, which began in 2024 and which had already led to the seizure of more than 420 kilos of cocaine, in maritime transport containers.

According to the PJ, the man now detained was one of those targeted in the operation carried out last week, but was only now located, being intercepted at the airport, when he was preparing to leave the country.

Without a criminal record, the suspect will be presented for the first judicial interrogation and application of coercive measures at the Porto Criminal Investigation Court.
