Photograph of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor dominates UK covers after arrest

The photograph of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor leaving Aylsham police station, in Norfolk, after more than 10 hours in police custody, dominated the front pages of the British press this Saturday, February 21st.

The image was captured by Reuters photographer Phil Noble, who described the moment as rare. “The photography gods were on my side,” he said.

According to the photographer, the team went to several police stations before identifying the correct location. When two vehicles left the police station garage, he managed to register the former prince in the back seat of one of them. In total, he fired six times, but only one image captured the moment clearly.

“For every car photo you take, the hit rate is very, very low,” Noble explained, adding that it was one of those moments where “you can’t believe you did it.”

Mountbatten-Windsor was released “under investigation” on Thursday night. The police did not detail the reasons for the arrest on suspicion of misconduct in the exercise of public functions. The former prince has denied any wrongdoing and claims to have never suspected the crimes attributed to Jeffrey Epsteinwith whom he had relations in the past.
