The National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) decided this Wednesday, February 18, in Cascais, to ask the Government to expand the municipalities covered by support for storm damage, exemption from tolls in the most affected areas and assistance with population applications.
“The measures to be applied within the scope of the calamity declaration” must “also cover some municipalities that were not flagged at an initial stage” and “that also need this exceptional support”said Pedro Pimpão, president of ANMP.
The also social-democratic president of the Chamber of Pombal, who was speaking to Lusa after a meeting of the ANMP board of directors, in the Cidadela de Cascais, district of Lisbon, said that a resolution had been approved with several measures to be sent to the Government and parliament to recover the territories affected by the storms.
“Another dimension, which has also been an issue at a national level, is related to the expansion of the exceptional exemption regime for paying toll fees, naturally in these most affected municipalities, as they also have many constraints on the circulation of normal roads”highlighted Pimpão.
