WORLD.- United States deported a Mexico to a two-month-old babywho fights with respiratory problemsalong with his family, after several days of criticism from the Democratic opposition to the arrest of families in a detention center in texas.
On Tuesday night, the legislator Joaquin Castro reported that the baby (identified as Juan Nicolas) was transported towards the border with Mexico next to his motherare dad and his sisterone year.
The baby and his mother were in the Dilley Detention Center (Texas) more than three weeks ago. It is unknown if the rest of the family members were also held there.
“Unnecessarily deporting a sick baby and his family is atrocious,” the congressman wrote on his platform X account. “My office and I are focused on finding them and holding ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) accountable for this monstrous action.”
On Monday they had taken the baby for a few hours to a local hospital, where he they diagnosed bronchitisaccording to what his mother told Castro. It was reported that the baby had been “constantly sick” during his time at the detention center, “vomiting and having breathing problems.”
Detentions of migrant children increase in the United States
More than 1,400 people remain held in Dilleyamong them about 400 minors, in inadequate conditions, including a lack of medical care and education for minors, as well as food and water in poor condition, according to immigration lawyers.
The controversial detention center was closed for several years in the term of Joe Biden (2021-2025); Donald Trump’s government reopened it as part of its campaign to speed up arrests and deportations of migrants.
The detention of migrant minors in the United States increased sharply during Trump’s term. According to the Deportation Data Projectbetween January and October of this year, a monthly average of 170 children were arrested, compared to the 25 that were registered during the last 16 months of the Biden Administration.
