VATICAN CITY.- This Tuesday, the Secretary of State Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, confirmed that the Vatican will not participate in the so-called Gaza Peace Board driven by the president of the United States, Donald Trump.

“We have taken note that Italy will participate as an observer,” said Parolin, who noted that there are “points that leave a little perplexing” and “critical points that would need to be clarified.”
The cardinal indicated that, although “the important thing is that an answer is being tried,” for the Holy See There are “issues that should be resolved.”
First meeting of the Peace Board
The Peace Board will celebrate its first meeting this Thursday in Washington with the participation of at least 35 heads of State and Government, including those of Israel, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
On the contrary, countries such as France, Spain and Sweden have rejected the invitation.
The Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajanidefended the presence of his country, ensuring that there are no viable alternatives to the American proposal and that an absence would be “politically incomprehensible,” although he did not detail who will lead the Italian delegation at this Thursday’s meeting.
Parolin participated this Tuesday in a meeting on the occasion of the 97 birthday of the Lateran Pacts (signed in 1929 between the then Pope Pius XI – represented by Cardinal Pietro Gasparri – and the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini – on behalf of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy – and by virtue of which the Vatican City State and puts an end to the so-called “Roman question”), which was also attended by the president of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarellaand the prime minister, Giorgia Meloni.
