Global Rejection of Israel’s Annexation of the West Bank

The Palestinian Authority, Hamas, Egypt and Qatar have rejected Israel’s decision to reopen the land registration process in the occupied West Bank, which raises fears of the territory’s annexation.

The Palestinian Authority’s diplomacy stated that it “strongly condemns [a decisão] and rejects any attempt to designate West Bank land as ‘public land’ under the control of the occupying force.”

In a message published on the social network X, on Sunday night, the ministry considered the new measures “legally invalid” and equivalent to the “de facto beginning of an annexation process”.

In a statement, the Islamist movement Hamas classified Israel’s decision as an attempt to “steal and Judaize” Palestinian territories and considered the measure illegitimate, “null and void.”

“This is an attempt to impose settlements and Judaization on the ground by force, in flagrant violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions,” said Hamas, quoted by the newspaper ‘Filastín’.

Hamas stated that the decision was “issued by an illegitimate occupying power” and reiterated that “the resistance of the Palestinian people” will not allow Israel’s attempts “at annexation, Judaization and displacement”.

“The will of our people, their attachment to their land and their inalienable national rights will continue to be the insurmountable barrier against the occupation’s expansionist policies and plans,” he added.

Hamas called on the international community, including the UN and the Security Council, to assume “their legal and political responsibilities” and take “immediate measures to stop the occupation’s aggression and its continued violations against the Palestinian people.”

The Government of Egypt said on X that it “strongly condemns” the announcement, which it considers “a dangerous escalation with the aim of consolidating Israeli control” over the West Bank and a violation of international agreements.

Qatari diplomacy denounced, on the same social network, the measures approved by >Israel, which it described as “an extension of plans to deprive the Palestinian people of their rights”.

Also on Sunday, Jordan had already expressed “absolute rejection” of the measure announced by Israel, which it considered “an affront to the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination”.

According to the Israeli Ministry of Justice, the objective of the measure is “the registration of extensive areas” in the West Bank in the name of the State of Israel, while the Israeli Government will provide the competent government authority with the budget and equipment necessary to carry out the settlement of the land.

Israeli Justice Minister Yaariv Levin, speaking after the measure’s approval, said it was “a true revolution in Judea and Samaria”, the biblical name used by Israeli nationalists for the West Bank, and stated that “the Land of Israel belongs to the people of Israel”.
