ATLANTA, Ga.—A storm system that hit the southeast of USA Saturday night and Sunday morning generated warnings of tornado in Mississippi y Louisiana before heading to parts of Georgia and Floridawhen the population of the northeast of the country was finally beginning to get a break after weeks of bitterly cold temperatures.
Some of the biggest storms in the south of the country were recorded near Lake CharlesLouisiana, where the strong winds of a thunderstorm a horse trailer and a carriage were overturned Mardi Grasdamaged an airport boarding bridge and threw the metal awning of a house against power lines. The damage was documented by employees of the National Weather Service who inspected the area.

The weather service reported that power poles snapped and fell near the towns of Jena, Cheneyville and Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
States under tornado watch

There were no deaths or serious injuries, but reports of damage came as the storm system continued its path toward parts of southern Georgia and the Florida Panhandle, which were under a tornado watch on Sunday.
Thousands without electricity
The weekend storms caused some power outages in the South, but they did not come close to the huge number of outages caused by ice storms late last month in northern Mississippi and Nashville, Tennessee. By early Sunday afternoon, more than 12,000 customers were without power in North Florida, according to PowerOutage.uswhich records electricity outages throughout the country. About 7,000 customers were without power in Mississippi and another 6,000 in Louisiana.
The northeastern United States was beginning to thaw after a period of several weeks of unusually intense cold.
Boston was almost –14°C below the February average midweek, and the city was heading into its coldest winter in more than a decade. Boston was still cold Sunday, but the week’s forecast called for temperatures climbing into the late 30s and early 40s, closer to the seasonal average.
Storms predicted in California
The Donner Pass is expected to receive heavy snowfall this week, with up to 8 FEET of snow. This is in addition to the heavy rain and severe storms Southern California will see this week.

Elsewhere in the United States, parts of California were bracing for showers, thunderstorms and snowfall. Jacob Spendermeteorologist National Weather Service in Sacramentoindicated that a storm system was moving into California on Sunday and throughout the week.
Heavy snow was forecast at higher elevations, Spender said.
“As we get up into the mountains and foothills, we’re going to see some snow. So there will be snow all the way up to the foothills as well,” he explained.
WINTER OUT WEST: A line of storms is headed for California, bringing heavy rain, and the risk of flash flooding across coastal regions of the state starting today and continuing through Monday.

Spender recommended that the population heed the travel advisories in the coming days.
“So if you’re going to travel, bring winter safety kits. Anything to be prepared. This is a bigger system, an important system,” he added.
