The Midas case, as it is known, is the biggest corruption scandal to hit Volodymyr Zelensky’s presidency, having led to the dismissal of the president’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak. Eight suspects were formally charged.
In wiretaps carried out by authorities, the suspects allegedly discuss sharing bribes and mention a figure nicknamed “Professor”, who prosecutors believe to be Galushchenko. He denies the accusations.
Galushchenko’s name does not appear explicitly in the NABU statement, where only the arrest of a former energy minister is mentioned and more details are promised for later.
According to the Ukrainian press, Galushchenko was detained while on a train.
