“The president of EMER made public statements saying that the person had sufficient technical knowledge to perform his duties, which is clearly not correct,” said the deputy.
Pedro Vaz argued that “it is very important to clarify what happened here and ask the president of EMER if he feels he has the conditions to continue in the face of this Government disauthorization” and also the executive “maintains political trust” in Manuel Nina, who “is clearly out of line with the Government’s vision for the entity”.
In the opinion of the PS, “it will hardly be possible to have these conditions”, indicated the deputy.
“If the president of the structure, appointed by the Government, publicly says that Fábio Alves Teixeira had the skills for the duties, the Government says that he clearly did not, there is a huge misalignment here”, he maintained.
The PS coordinator on the Environment and Energy Committee considered that Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho “did well” and “did the right thing” in demanding Fábio Teixeira’s resignation, so “it doesn’t make sense” to also call her to parliament.
Pedro Vaz considered that “it is normal” that the Minister of Environment and Energy was not aware of the appointment of nurse Fábio Teixeira as EMER coordinator.
“We are talking about intermediate directions within a State structure, it is not normal for ministers to know about all the designations or appointments of leaders within the structures, this is something that is up to the structure. Now, the Secretary of State is different, especially because the minister delegated to him all the competencies, all the powers in relation to EMER”, he defended, considering that “it is necessary to understand” whether Jean Barroca knew.
Fábio Teixeira resigned from his position less than a week after his appointmentwith the request for dismissal being accepted by the president of EMER 2030, Manuel Nina.
The Minister of Environment and Energy indicated that she was not informed of the appointment of nurse Fábio Teixeira as EMER coordinator and learned of the appointment through the media.
On Wednesday, the president of the structure had justified the appointment, highlighting that it met legal and technical criteria and highlighting Fábio Teixeira’s experience in managing projects and procedures
The appointment generated controversy due to the fact that the president did not have professional experience in the areas of environment, sustainability or renewable energy.
