Porto Municipal Gallery celebrates 25 years with a support program for new works

From May 16th to October 16th, the yard in front of GMP hosts an outdoor installation by the Mexican artist Pia Camil. It will be a large-scale textile installation, made up of second-hand clothing items collected in dialogue with the population of the city of Porto.explains the gallery.

Between July 11th and October 18th, the Lithuanian artist Augustas Serapinas will hold his first exhibition in Portugal at GMP. It will be a large-scale installation that will transform the gallery into a space between a gym and a design office. During the same period, the Algerian conceptual artist Lydia Ourahmane will create the installation and performance For You, in collaboration with her composer and musician sister, Sarah Ourahmane, and blind performers.

At the end of the year, from November 21st until February 21st, 2027, the Porto Municipal Gallery will exhibit the work of the artist ISabel Carvalho and Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, described as “one of the most prominent duos experimenting with sound and image in the field of contemporary art”.

In 2026, GMP will also continue with public programs, such as February February, Swamp Fire, Pláka Collectives, Circuits’26, Rush Hour, Gallery Conversations e Active Listening.

At the press conference to present GMP’s new programming, which was attended by Jorge Sobrado, councilor for Culture at the Porto City Council, and João Laia, artistic director of the Direcção de Arte Contemporânea da Ágora – Cultura e Desporto do Porto, it was revealed that the number of visitors and participants at the gallery increased 134% in 2025 compared to the previous year for 180,644 people.
