Livre submitted a draft resolution to Parliament that aims to “implement a national emergency kit distribution program” as a response to crisis scenarios.
The party suggests that “in joint orders from members responsible for Defense and Civil Protection” the “distribution of domestic emergency kits equipped with essential goods” should be sought, which the party recalls is provided for in the “European Union Strategy for a Union of Preparedness.”
At the same time, Livre argues that it is necessary to carry out “awareness-raising actions for the general population”, such as simulations to define action in situations of risk and threat”, which happens in cases of earthquakes, but not exactly in climatic events like the one Portugal is going through. In this published proposal, no possible costs of the measure were presented.
With immediate effect in the reaction to Kristin’s depression, the party led by Rui Tavares and Isabel Mendes Lopes announced to DN that it proposes “an exceptional financial support line of immediate access”, prioritizing the “urgent repair of damaged housing”, the “temporary rehousing of displaced families and financial support for temporary rehousing”, “compensation for the loss of food, medicines and other perishable goods due to the power outage”, in addition to the “suspension of rent payments in public park housing for households temporarily unable to live in their homes.”
As businesspeople have already suggested and the PS also presented on Monday, Livre intends that “non-refundable subsidies and subsidized credit lines” be created, adding an “exceptional support regime for self-employed workers” and “specific support for the agricultural sector, including compensation for loss of crops, production and animals.” He also wants timely transfers to municipalities in a strategy of decentralization of skills.
It is recalled that Livre proposed changes to the government standard, asking for support measures to mitigate “the impact of rural fires and extreme natural phenomena” and frequently warns of the risk that climate change may have on Portugal, calling for financial preventive measures to this effect.
The Portuguese Environment Agency will be in Parliament this Wednesday, where it will hold a review meeting on flood management and coastal protection, in which the Minister of Environment and Energy will participate.
