Asked whether this action benefited his campaign, André Ventura repeated the idea: “Screw elections – all of them.”
Ventura insisted on what he has repeated over the last few days of being necessary to “show the country what is happening”, after showing himself putting goods collected for the victims in a van on Friday and being in the center of Leiria on Thursday, in a visit that lasted around an hour, always with the media present, unlike his opponent, António José Seguro.
Describing what he saw in the municipality of Leiria as an “apocalyptic scenario”, André Ventura justified the initiatives promoted by his candidacy by the fact that the campaign was “marked”.
“We have to focus on helping. Helping is showing people what is happening and not doing anything else”, he stressed.
The presidential candidate and president of Chega said that people “don’t care about political ideas”, considering that politicians have to go to the field, “know what is happening”.
André Ventura considered that the President of the Republic should go to the field “to talk to people, see what is happening”, after Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was on the ground on Friday.
The candidate called for everyone to mobilize to help the affected municipalities, stating that he will seek activists and supporters to help provide tarpaulins to the affected people.
Regarding whether the campaign will continue in its current form – dedicated to responding to bad weather –, the candidate said that this “is evident”, but said that “it is impossible” not to focus on the impact of Kristin’s depression.
“I’m going to try to make some contacts this afternoon so we can get some goods,” he said.
