This Saturday, January 31st, the Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a man suspected of the murder of Maria Amaral, the real estate agent and daughter of actress Delfina Cruz, who had been missing since January 19th.
The operation was conducted by the National Counterterrorism Unit and took place in the Lourinhã area. It culminates 12 days of uncertainty about the victim’s whereabouts.
According to the statement from the Judiciary Police, the investigation was carried out in a “swift and uninterrupted” manner, allowing a solid set of evidence to be gathered that points to the detainee as the perpetrator of the crime. One of the decisive elements in consolidating the suspicions was the carrying out of a house search at the suspect’s residence, where inspectors found “relevant hematic traces”, that is, blood samples.
Body recovery underway
After the initial inspection of the site and the collection of evidence, the Judicial Police states that it is preparing the necessary steps to collect the body. The body will have been hidden by the attacker after the crime, and the authorities will have already identified the location where it is located.
The arrest was carried out out of the act of committing a crime, under a warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office magistrate who is in charge of the investigation. The suspect will now be brought before the competent judicial authority for the first judicial interrogation, at which time appropriate coercive measures will be applied.
