At least three employees of a Mexican restaurant were detained Thursday night during an operation carried out by agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) on the outskirts of the city of Minneapolis, witnesses at the scene reported.
The establishment was preliminarily identified as “El Tapatío”, located in an area near the Wilma school and a local church. The arrests occurred around 8:30 p.m., shortly after the restaurant closed.
Climate of tension
According to testimonies, citizens who witnessed the operation recorded videos and took photographs of the agents inside the premises. The material began to circulate massively on social networks during the morning of this Friday, generating reactions of indignation and concern among the community.
The intervention occurs in a context marked by an environment of social tension, derived from recent protests against ICE actions in the region, as well as the murder of Renee Good during a previous demonstration, a fact that has increased public sensitivity to this type of operations.
Impact on the community
Witnesses noted that the restaurant staff showed obvious signs of nervousness during the procedure. The incident has caused commotion among residents and merchants in the area, who expressed fear about the impact that this type of action could have on the local migrant community.

As of press time, neither ICE nor Minneapolis municipal authorities have issued an official position on the operation. The names and legal status of those detained have also not been revealed.
