A 61-year-old father could not hold back his tears when he saw colors in his world for the first time, after receiving a special Christmas gift.
Jim Gogan had always had difficulty distinguishing the colors red and green. In fact, when he joined the Air Force, he couldn’t be a pilot because he couldn’t read radar screens.
For years, his family had thought about giving him special color-blind glasses, and finally in December, his son Kyle was able to make it happen, thanks to a bonus from his work.
A video shared by the family shows Jim crying after seeing the colors clearly for the first time.
“He’s never been able to distinguish colors,” said Kyle, 39, originally from South Carolina.
“He would say things like, ‘bring me my blue shirt,’ and it was green.”
Before giving him the glasses, Kyle printed out colorblind tests that the whole family took, and Jim failed almost every question.
Kyle then handed her the glasses and the results were immediate.
As she put on her glasses and looked at the colored drawing of a Christmas tree, tears began to well up in her eyes. (Watch the video at the end…)
“It was very exciting to see my dad react,” Kyle told news agency SWNS.
After calming down, Jim took the test again, and this time he answered all the questions correctly.
The color red was the one that impressed him the most.
“He kept commenting on how beautiful the bricks in the houses were.”
The next day, his family took him for a walk to enjoy the outdoors in all its colorful splendor.
