Digital retailers continue to update their methods, and in the past few days a new fraud method has been uncovered that uses the name of streaming platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ to steal users’ personal and banking information.
The problem is caused by fake e-mails for those alerted to pending payments, unrecognized cargo or previous checkout suspensions, with the aim of tricking victims into falling for phishing and providing sensitive information on fraudulent websites that mimic official portals.

“Users spoof senders, use links or URLs slightly modified or created by them, and include other archives that redirect to fake forms. Request information below for excuses such as tarjeta errors, automatic service renewal or cancellation, advocating night hours or weekends when the victim is least likely to verify information.”

Although streaming platforms usually send notifications electronically, not all messages are legitimate. The authors recommend not to click on suspicious links and always check the account status directly from the application or the official website.
The SSC explains that these fraudulent scams mimic real logos and designs and lead to fake pages where you are asked to enter personal, bank or fake details, allowing criminals to control their accounts and make unauthorized charges.
