The seventh visit of the piano miracle
Zacharias, who will be celebrating his seventh visit to the Sociedad de Conciertos de Alicante (first in 1983), is a storyteller among directors and pianists of his generation. In each of his interpretations, which are characterized by elaborate, detailed and precise articulation, it is clear what he wants to convey: Zacharias is interested in what is hidden between the notes.
Through an unrivaled combination of integrity and individuality, brilliant linguistic expression, deep musical understanding and solid artistic instinct combined with his charismatic and cautious personality, Christian Zacharias established himself not only as a world-class director and pianist, but also as a musician with his own ideas. An international career is defined by various acclaimed concerts with the world’s best orchestras and with exceptional directors, as well as numerous recognitions and awards.
From the 2021/2022 season, Christian Zacharias is the invited principal conductor of the Ciudad de Granada Orchestra. He is also the director of the Orchester National Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. Zacharias has also maintained a great relationship with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Orquestra Sinfónica Do Porto Casa da Música and performs regularly with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orchester National du Capitole de Toulouse, Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra, Filarmónica de Poznań, Orchester Philharmonique de Monte Cartra Chamber Orches. He is also a regular guest of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Orquesta Sinfónica de Bamberg, Orquesta Filarmónica de Stuttgart and Orquesta Nacional de Lyon.
Piano recitals, not very frequent on his open agenda, have taken him to important European cities (including Paris, London, Madrid and Frankfurt) and to prestigious festivals such as Schubertiade, La Roque d’Anthéron and Piano aux Jacobins in Toulouse.
Since 1990, the following films starring Christian Zacharias have been produced: Domenico Scarlatti in Seville, Robert Schumann – The Poet Speaks (for INA, Paris), Zwischen Bühne und Künstlerzimmer (for WDR-arte), From B by Beethoven to Z by Zacharias (for RTS, SSR-Suretho Concerto for Concerto Beethovenste)
Zacharias’ musical work has been honored on many occasions, such as the 2007 Midem de Música Clásica Award for Artist of the Year, the title of Official of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French State, and the homenaje de Romania for his services to culture. In addition, he was a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in 2016 and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Gothenburg in 2017.
During his tenure as director of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, various recordings were made that were internationally acclaimed. Also note the recordings of all Schumann symphonies and all Mozart piano concertos, which have been celebrated by the Golden Diapason of the Year, Choc du World of Music and ECHO Klassik. In 2022/23, after a long hiatus, MDG finally released two solo albums by the pianist with Haydn sonatas as well as Bach concertos and suites.
